Nak tahu cara untuk menyediakan Tugasan yang boleh memberikan skor A? Ataupun anda menghadapi masalah untuk mencari bahan untuk tugasan anda? Daftarlah sebagai peserta Bengkel anjuran bersama OUM Perak dan OUM Alumni Perak pada 9 dan 10 Ogos. Anda juga boleh menempah tempat anda dengan menghubungi 05-2546006 (Ros/Shah). Bengkel ini akan diadakan pada 17 Ogos dari pukul 8.30pg hingga 1.30tgh. Bahan bengkel dan minum pagi akan disediakan.

Bengkel ini akan dkendalikan oleh Pengarah PP Perak, Richard Ng, yang banyak berpengalaman dalam bidang kajiselidik dan carian koleksi digital. Beliau pernah mengendalikan bengkel seperti ini pada tahun 2005 di OUM Perak, OUM KL dan OUM Kota Kinabalu. Beliau juga pernah mengendalikan bengkel ini di Koleh Taj/Unitar. Semua venue yang menganjurkan bengkel ini penuh sesak dengan pelajar yang ingin memahirkan diri dalam penyediaan tugasan mereka.

Peserta bengkel akan didedahkan dengan rahsia untuk skor A dalam tugasan. Peserta juga akan dapat mempelajari kaedah memahami kehendak soalan, mencari bahan yang diperlukan terutama koleksi digital OUM seperti Proquest, Emerald, Books24x7 dan Ebrary. Peserta juga akan dapat memahami kaedah menulis tugasan dengan teratur dan dalam masa yang lebih singkat berpandukan kepada format yang diperlukan serta rujukan APA. Bengkel ini akan dikendalikan secara "live" melalui Internet.

Ini adalah satu projek amal yang dijalankan oleh AJK Alumni OUM Perak bagi mengisi tabung kanta mata di bawah projek SightFirst. Semua peserta yang berminat untuk menyertai bengkel ini akan dikenakan bayaran RM30 dan kesemua wang ini akan didermakan kepada tabung tersebut. Semua bahan bengkel dan minum pagi akan dibiayai sepenuhnya oleh OUM.

Tempat adalah terhad kepada 50 orang peserta pertama yang berdaftar. Berikut adalah tajuk bengkel ini:

Pelajar-pelajar dari Institute Profesional Development (IPD) OUM telah menganjurkan satu kempen menderma darah bersama dengan Jabatan Kesihatan Teluk Intan pada pagi tadi.Majlis ini telah dirasmikan oleh Timbalan Ketua Polis Teluk Intan, Tuan Mohd Alwi Abu Bakar.

IPD adalah anak syarikat Meteor/OUM yang menyediakan kursus pembangunan modal insan untuk warga kerja dalam bidang pengkhususan pada peringkat sijil dan eksekutif diploma. Seramai 90 orang pelajar sedang mengikuti pelbagai kursus eksekutif diploma di pusat pembelajaran IPD. Majlis kempen derma darah ini adalah sumbangan pelajar ini kepada masyarakat tempatan di Teluk Intan.

Pengarah PP Perak, Richard Ng telah diberi penghormatan bagi mewakili OUM untuk menyampaikan kata aluan dalam majlis tersebut. Beliau antara lain mengucapkan syabas dan tahniah kepada pengurus pusat pembelajaran IPD Teluk Intan serta para pelajar IPD kerana brjaya menganjurkan kempen darah. Beliau juga memaklumkan pada hadirin sekalian mengenai latar belakang OUM serta peluang pembelajaran ang disediakan untuk warga kerja. Beliau menyeru agar para pelajar sekalian mewar-warkan kepada kawan-kawan mereka akan peluang yang disediakan oleh OUM serta IPD bagi meningkatkan kemahiran yang mereka cebori.

Tuan Mohd Alwi, dalam ucapan perasmiannya, mengucapkan terima kasih kepada pihak OUM kerana menyediakan peluang pembelajaran pada warga kerja. Beliau turut menjemput OUM untuk memberikan taklimat di Jabatan-jabatan kerajaan yang ada di Teluk Intan kerana beliau percaya bahawa ramai lagi warga Teluk Intan yang berminat untuk meningkatkan tahap kemahiran mereka. Beliau juga menyeru pada hadirin sekalian untuk turut sama mewar-warkan peluang keemasan yang disediakan oleh OUM.

Peperiksaan Semester Mei 2008

Hari ini merupakan hari terakhir peperiksaan akhir Semester Mei 2008. Sepanjang peperiksaan dijalankan sejak 14 Julai lalu, ianya telah dijalankan dengan licin dan teratur. Saya amat berterima kasih kepada Setiausaha Peperiksaan saya iaitu Puan Siti Norjalilah serta semua staf OUM Perak yang terlibat dalam mengatur segala persiapaan peperiksaan. Saya juga amat berterima kasih kepada semua calon-calon peperiksaan yang telah memberikan kerjasama mereka dengan sepenuhnya walaupun tindakan drastik terpaksa kami ambil dalam memastikan semua calon mengikut peraturan peperiksaan OUM yang terkini.

Tindakan drastik yang telah kami ambil mungkin tidak menyenangkan pada setengah-setengah calon tetapi ianya amat berkesan sehingga tidak ada calon ditangkap menipu dalam peperiksaan semester ini berbanding dengan semester-semester sebelum ini. Ini penting demi untuk kebaikan pelajar serta menjaga imej dan integriti OUM.

Walaupun begitu, terdapat juga calon yang kurang puas hati akibat format soalan peperiksaan bag subjek tertentu dan juga masa yang diperuntukkan tidak mencukupi. Pihak kami amat prihatin mengenai perkara ini dan telah kami panjangkan kepada unit peperiksaan untuk tindakan mereka.

Bagi pelajar-pelajar uyang masih belum berdafar untuk subjek semester September ini, jangan lupa untuk berbuat demikian mulai 1 Ogos hinggalah tarikh akhir pendaftaran pada 10 Ogos. Sukacita saya ingin mengingatkan pelajar senior tentang tarikh pengambilan modul ialah pada 9 Ogos (Untuk pelajar KPM) dan 10 Ogos (Untuk pelajar lain). Bagi pelajar KPM yang terpaksa mengajar pada 9 Ogos, sukacita kami maklumkan bahawa pengambilan modul boleh dibuat pada sebelah petang 9 Ogos ataupun pada 10 Ogos.

Keputusan peperiksaan semester Mei 2008 seperti biasa dijangka akan keluar pada pertengahan bulan September.

After three days of rigorous training, everyone was tired especially after the Paint Ball Session held in the morning. All of us met again in the afternoon at 3.00pm for the closing ceremony and certificate presentation.

En. Repin, COO of Meteor Group did the closing with the hope that everyone has benefited from the training. He advised everyone to apply what they have learned and ensure that we do things differently from now to ensure that OUM stays competitive.

My personal comment is that most of us have enjoyed and benefited from the training. We have the opportunity to meet other members of OUM now so that in future when we are faced with problems we will be able to contact the right people to help us. In any organization, conflicts bound to happen and usually it is either due to us or the other party or both. But it is easier to change ourselves than changing other people. Thus we must make every effort to change ourselves before we are changed!

The Paint Ball Game

On the third and final day we all have to cross the final hurdle before we can all graduate from our rigorous training. All of us have to wake up at 6.30am and be ready by 8am. The bus took us to the Bukit Tinggi area where we will have to participate in the paintball competition. We arrived at our destination at 9.15am and were given briefing on the safety aspects of the game by the chief marshal.



We were divided into 4 groups of 8 in each group. I was in the group 1 led by Sdra Arshad and we have to compete with group 2 led by Sdra Yon Rosli. The game is about whichever team that can grab the 2 flags and bring back to their own band will win the game. But before the flag can be taken, we haveto shoot down opponent's flag. The combat area is as big as half the size of a football field with bunkers put up in certain areas. The game ended in just slightly 7 minutes. Of course my team lost because we are not able to grab our flags due to heavy shots received from the opponent.

Next game was between Group 3 and 4 and the winner was Group 3. The game was tehn followed by Group 1 and Group 4 (loser versus loser) and Group 2 versus Group 3 (winner vrsus winner). The champion was Group 3 led by Major Mat Som.

The toughest game was between OUM and the Marshals. I was among those in OUM's team. The game plan has changed where there is no law and uses long life approach where you are not out even if you are shot. The only rule is that opponents cannot shoot within the same bunker. The team that reach the band of the opponent firstwill win the game. The strategy is to shoot and run to the opponent's band.

We were only given limited pallets (bullets) and of course the game started off cautiously in order to save the bullets. Then suddenly everyone started to shoot and run. The marshal team ran into our camp first and I was shot in the process when they came into our bunker. I got 4 shots on my butt from our opponent from behind and within our bunker. Of course this is a foul. Realizing that they were penalized, I ran straight into the enemy's territory and touched their band and the game was over and we won.

I do not have the pictures with me at point of writing but will upload it once I received from my team members. But I would like to share with you the shots I received as follows:



The game was good. Was it really painful? The answer is yes if the shot received is within 10 feet and that was what I received. But it was fun and tiring.

The afternoon training session ended at 6.00pm. The next session is a Fun and Easy session where each group is required to do a group performance based on their creativity. The group discussion ended at about 7 pm and participants then took a quick break and came back to the training hall for BBQ dinner at 8.15pm.

The group performance began at 9pm with performance on Group 1 led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mazlan who did a sketch and sang a song entitled: "Lagu 3 kupang". Group 2 which was led by Major Mat Som also performed a sketch and song by Kris Dayanty.

Group 3 which was led by me with our performance entitled: "Rang-Awak-Tembe". Participants from 3 groups were drawn randomly and were asked to answer some easy questions. Unfortunately none of them won and they were given prizes too. Among the participants who were selected for the quiz include Major Mat Som, Sdra Arshad and Sdra Yahya Rock.

The BBQ and group performance ended at about 10.30pm. Some of us dropped by at Awana Club next door. I was very surprised to see my student Abdul Manan whom I taught in 1982 was a member of the band know as "The Freemind". So I took the opportunity to take a picture with him next to his promotion poster.

Tomorrow will be the last day of the three-day retreat and we will be off at 8am to the Paint Ball venue which is located about 1 hour from where we stay, the Awana Genting Hotel.

OUM/Meteor Executive Retreat July 31 -1 Aug - Day 2 Part 1

The second day of the retreat started at 9.00am. The training began with the first session on "Thinking Outside the Box" by Tony Hayman. Tony began with quote by Charles Duell in 1899: "Everything that can be invented has been invented."

Participants were told to think outside the box - to think differently and do things differently. We must find new ideas and act on them.

According to Tony, thinking outside the box requires the following:

* Willingness to take on new perspectives of day-to-day work
* Openness to do different things and to do things differently
* Focusing on the value of finding new ideas and acting on them
* Striving to create value in new ways
* Listening to others
* Supporting and respecting others when they come up with new ideas

The second presentation on "Working Performance and Etiquettes" was conducted by Puan Faizah, Senior Group HR Manager of OUM/Meteor. Obviously many participants were curious about performance appraisal and how they are evaluated and tied up to incentive, pay and bonus.

We break for lunch at 12.45pm. The afternoon session began at 2.30pm. This session on "Interpersonal Relationship" was conducted by Michael Reyes. He said that 30% of our characteristics are born and 70% are developed according to a survey in US. In any relationship between 2 individuals they are bound to have conflict. Participants were then told to brainstorm for 5 minutes within their group to find the problems they encountered with their partners or superiors.

He stressed that in any relationship, problems are either a result of the other party, you or both. And it is easier to change your own characters hen others.

The fourth session after the tea break was conducted by Prof. Dr. Latifah on "Understanding Student Issues". Participants are divided into 6 groups and each group was told to present problems they noticed, faced by our students.
