SEA Games: Malaysia beats Vietnam 1-0 in final - Star

VIENTIANE: Malaysia finally ended its 20-year gold drought in the SEA Games men’s football competition, when it defeated Vietnam 1-0 in the final played at the Main Stadium of the National Sports Complex in Vientiane on Thursday.

The National Under-23 boys, who came here as non-medal prospects, pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the Games to win the gold.

The moment that we have been waiting for ...



Malaysia last won the football gold in the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in 1989, with a 1-0 victory over Singapore.

The ‘winner’ came courtesy of an own goal by Vietnam’s Mai Xuan Hop’s in the 84th minute of a toughly-fought final. The football gold medal was also Malaysia’s 40th gold medal in Vientiane.

The victory was all the more sweeter as the Malaysians had lost 1-3 to Vietnam in a group match on Dec 6.

Earlier, the young Malaysians had knocked out defending champions Thailand 2-1 in the group stage to win a place in the semi-finals.

Then in the last four, they downed Laos 3-1 in front of a sell-out 20,000 fans.

ISODEL 2009 - Parallel Session

The ISODEL 2009 conference which was held in Jogyakarta from 8 Dec to 11 Dec at the Sheraton Hotel, witnessed 55 speakers presenting their papers.

Among the speakers are Senior VP of OUM ,Prof. Dr. Mansor Fadzil, Richard Ng (Director of OUM Perak Learning Centre), Tuan Fatma, Rozeman (Senior Lecturers of OUM) and Mohd Jamaluddin (Head of Counseling Unit).

Blog BBMP-1103 menjangkaui 500 hits pada 16 Disember 2009

Blog http://bbmp-1103.blogspot.com menjadi sasaran hari ini oleh para pengunjung yang terdiri dari para pelajar OUM yang bakal menduduki peperiksaan subjek Matematik Pengurusan esok 17 Disember 2009 jam 9.00pg hingga 11.10pg. Bilangan hits yang dicatatkan hari ini telah menjangkaui angka 535.

Semalam, blog ini mencatatkan bilangan hits sebanyak 306. Ini adalah satu fenomena yang biasa berlaku dikalangan pelajar yang mencari tips peperiksaan pada saat-saat akhir walaupun blog ini telah memaparkan tips peperiksaan sejak 30 November lagi.


Para pengunjung mengakses blog ini sama ada melalui pengumuman yang dibuat oleh tutor mereka di dalam LMS, ada yang akses melalui Math Resource Centre OUM ataupun melalui carian dalam Google atau pautan blog lain.


Antara 6 kelip video yang dimuat-naikkan dalam blog yang menjadi sasaran pelajar ialah kelip video bertajuk "Compound Interest" yang mencatatkan sebanyak 228 hits pada ketika blog ini ditulis.

Sejak blog ini dihasilkan pada bulan April 2008, ia telah mencatatkan jumlah hits sebanyak 19,500. Pada bulan ini sahaja dalam tempoh 15 hari yang pertama, ia telah mencatatkan jumlah hits sebanyak 2,258 setakat ini.

Flashback catatan 30 November 2009:

The final exam which will be held on 17 December nationwide from 9.00am to 11.10am, consists of 2 parts:

Part A - given 3 questions - answer only 2
Part B - given 2 questions - answer only 1

You are given 2 hours to answer three questions, which means you must spend NOT more than 40 minutes per question.

Here are some of the topics to focus in the Sept 2009 final exam:

Topic 1 - from Chapter 6 - compound interest and growth rate

Topic 2 - from Chapter 7 - differentiation using product rule, division rule, power rule and chain rule

Topic 3 - from Chapter 10 - application of differentiation especially on how to find maximum revenue, maximum profit and minimum cost. Also practice on marginal cost, marginal revenue, marginal profit and average cost, average revenue and average profit

Topic 4 - from Chapter 13 - Integration

Topic 5 - from Chapter 14 - application of Integration especially on how to use integration to find cost and revenue functions from marginal cost and marginal revenue

New Greenhill Learning Centre to replace Greentown Learning Centre

Learners of OUM Perak attached to Greentown Learning Centre can look forward to a new semester in January 2010 as they will be relocated to our newly furnished building which were bought 6 months ago.

This follows the visit by YBhg Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Anuwar Ali to Ipoh on 28 February 2009. A number of learners have brought up the issues of problems with the existing facilities. Without much hesitation, YBhg Tan Sri has instructed us to immediately look for a new premise and on the very evening itself, we went to visit the new building located near Syuen Hotel and Prof. Mansor was tasked to negotiate the price and a deal was struck.

Tanggal 28 Februari 2009 merupakan satu detik manis dalam sejarah OUM Perak kerana dapat bersua muka dengan YBhg Tan Sri Dr. Anuwar Ali (Presiden/Naib Canselor OUM), Prof. Dr. Mansor Fadzil (Naib Presiden Kanan), Prof. Dr. Latifah Abdol Latif (Pengarah Pusat Pengurusan Pelajar), Prof. Madya Dr. Widad (Dekan, Fakulti Bahasa dan Pendidikan), Prof. Madya Dr. Santhi (Pengarah, Pusat Pembangunan dan Pengurusan Tutor) serta Datin Halimatholhanin (Pengarah, CIDT) dalam satu majlis dialog bersama pelajar dan tutor.

The new building was bought at a cost of about RM3.5 million and renovation works cost another RM1.5 million. The decision made by the management is to overcome problems encountered by learners. With the new building, we hope learners will now be able to study in a more conducive environment.

New furniture will be moved in today in stages with PCs and other facilities installed within this month. New Jan 2010 learners will get to taste the new building when they come for registration and briefing session on January 10.

YBhg Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Anuwar Ali, President and Vice Chancellor of OUM was among the plenary speakers on Day 3 of the ISODEL 2009 in Jogyakarta.

Other speakers include Fasli Djalal (Director General of Higher Education, MONE, Indonesia), Tian Belawati (President of AAOU) and Ronald Perkinson (Sampoerna School of Education).

The topic of YBhg Tan Sri's presentation was "International Outreach in Open, Distance E-Learning: The experience of Open University Malaysia". The session began with a short presentation of the speaker. See video clip Part 1 below.

ISODEL 2009 Jogjakarta - Day 6

Latest Update:

We have all arrived safely and back home now. Thanks to YBhg Tan Sri Anuwar Ali and Prof. Mansor Fadzil, our trip has been very fruitful and most memorable. Both are bosses are really caring and we have been taken good care of while in Jogja. We all have learned a lot in terms of the knowledge, work culture, attitude of people and also most importantly team work.

So now we have really understood our caring bosses, our colleagues Rozeman, Tuan Fatma Mohd Jamaluddin and Myzatul.

Time really flies. With our hectic schedule in Jogja, we didn't realize that we have come to the end of the many good things here. We have packed all our things and will be traveling to the airport at 9.00am local time.

Our MH856 flight to Kuala Lumpur is at 11.30am and will take about 2 hours and 30 minutes. As usual, we have to expand our luggage compartment and get extra boxes from Makro in Jogja to put in all our additional staff such batik, bags, t' Shirt and other cookies such as bakpiah, ampyang etc.

It was a very fruitful trip. We enjoyed the local dishes here such as Gudeg (still have it this morning at the hotel), Bubur Sum Sum, Bubur Kacang, Kolak, Nasi padang, Soto, gado-gado, ceker, sup buntut bakar, tempe etc.

The ISODEL 2009 was very informative with good keynote addresses and latest info on ODL. We have learned a lot about Indonesia and Jogja especially with the many influence of Hinduism. We have also learned how people have tolerated beyond religion here where Muslims and Hindus can collaborate without much fuss.

Borobudur and Prambanam was amazing. So was the still active Gunung Merapi. Ok got to go now. Will post the video clips and pictures when I am back to Malaysia. Selamat Tinggal Jogja.
