Applications For Perak Higher Education Loans Open Until Aug 14

IPOH, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- The Perak Higher Education Loan Fund (TPPTN) has received 705 applications since it opened on July 6, said State Education and Higher Learning Committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Zahir Khalid.

He said the TPPTN had allocated RM5 million this year to candidates who had received offers to further their studies in public and private universities in Malaysia and abroad.

"Of the total, 664 were Malay applicants, 25 Indian and 16 Chinese. We hope to receive more applications before the Aug 14 closing date.

"This fund is special in that there is no interest and those who obtain a first class bachelor's degree can apply to convert their loans," he told reporters here.

Mohamad Zahir said recipients could apply for a convertible loan or change to a scholarship depending on the evaluation of the Lembaga Kumpulan Wang Biasiswa Anak Perak.

Applicants must be individuals aged between 26 and 41 who were born in Perak or have lived in the state for over 10 years.

Loan amounts differ, with RM5,000 for those pursuing diploma courses and RM6,500 for those taking up bachelor's degree in science courses and RM6,000 in literature courses.

RM10,000 will be offered to students taking up master's degree and loans amounting to RM15,000 will be given to those pursuing their doctorate.

Mohamad Zahir said students who have been offered Islamic Studies courses in Jordan will be allocated RM12,000 per year, while TPPTN is offering RM6,000 for students of a similar course in Egypt.

Interested applicants can obtain more information from the Perak government website at www.perak.gov.my and online applications can be submitted through http://epinjaman.perak.gov.my.
